About Me

Welcome to my blog!  My name is Amanda and this is my Schmidt!  I’ve been having fun with my last name since 1995, when I learned how many different ways it can be used.  Some of my friends call me Diddy, but that name is already pretty popular.  I’ll tell you that story in an upcoming post.  Maybe.

I am currently enrolled at the University of Florida, pursuing my Graduate Certificate in Social Media.  Achieving that goal is what has pushed me out of my observant online comfort zone into publishing.   The first class is why I’m here writing, and you’re here reading!

I’m from West of Philadelphia, born and raised.  Abington, PA is where I spent most of my days.

After high school, I earned my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Delaware.  Go Fightin’ Blue Hens!  Delaware was technically out of state, so I felt cool, but I was still close to my home in Pennsylvania.

From Delaware, I moved to… Florida!  The Walt Disney World College Program had been calling my name since Freshmen year, and I finally answered.

While I have stayed in the Central Florida area, working for Walt Disney World, I enjoy traveling with the friends I made in Florida.  One winter, four of us went to visit the Rocky Steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

My College Program friends and I were able to meet up in Chicago, Illinois.  None of us had visited that city before, and we were able to sight see and learn together.

I used to jog cross country in high school, and since 2009 I have incorporated running back into my life. But only if there is a medal at the finish line!  I have completed Disney’s Coast to Coast Challenge twice… so far!  RunDisney keeps coming up with new races that spark my interest.

This Introduction to Multimedia Communications has already taught me more than I expected to learn, just getting to this point in my blog.  Instead of mailing in a paper application, I applied to this program entirely with technology, mostly using my smartphone.  I am looking forward to becoming proficient in blog set up, as well as gaining a better understanding of how social media impacts the business world.  I know I enjoy looking at social media, but as you can tell from my Instagram account, I hesitate to actively participate.  You never know who is watching!  With greater knowledge of the applications and ramifications of social media, I hope to not only actively participate in online forums, but also transition that experience to a successful career.
