Blogs – They Look Better Than They Sound

My mother sounded horrified when I told her I started blogging.  She wants to make sure that I still go outside and get fresh air.  For her sake, let’s look at three blogs that showcase pictures of people outside doing things.

Eat. Sleep. Wear.

Kimberly Pesch

Kimberly is a fashion, lifestyle, travel blogger, living in LA.   She posts to her professional blog almost daily.  Kimberly heavily relies on her followers from other forms of social media to bring viewers to her blog.  She posts on Instagram and Twitter multiple times a day.   Based on the number of followers on her various forms of social media below, I would say that Kimberly has her largest following on Pinterest.

Each medium has a link to her blog, where followers can read more about her outfits of the day, where she got those sunglasses, and where’s she’s visiting.  Recently, Kimberly advertised on Instagram that she had started a Snapchat account.  Her snaps reflect what is also on the blog, but behind the scenes.  Kimberly snapped the process of donating her hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which was then a blog post, as well as a Cosmopolitan article.

Kimberly’s artistic ability to capture fun photographs and write captivating stories brings many advertisers to her page.  But that’s part of the fun!  Kimberly showcases herself and her friends in their daily lives, using products.  Those products are then purchasable through links on her page.  Shop is where you can find specific pieces.  Banner ads also pop up on various pages.  The banner ads are to products that Kimberly would most likely use.  With the amount of potential for revenue to be generated, even though Kimberly does not post on her blog multiple times a day, the amount of other social media activity she does generate classifies her blog as professional.

Eat.Sleep.Wear is successful by our classroom definitions of posts published often, the author is on Twitter in additional to multiple other social sites, and it is easy to sign up to follow Kimberly on any of those sites.  This blog has been running for over 3 years and shows no signs of slowing down.  With her personal stories, easy access to products, and frequent updates,  I haven’t figured out what she’s missing yet.

Watch out for Kimberly!  She’s on the move and bringing you with her, fashionably!

Morgan Stewart

Morgan is one of the stars of reality show #RichKids of Beverly Hills.  She continuously updates Twitter and Instagram, but her blog seems to have taken a backseat to the thousands of other followers.

From her blog, I could not find a Pinterest, Facebook, or Snapchat account. But I did find links to #RKOBH, which has plenty of entertaining content.  Not all bloggers have their own television show!

Morgan is a reality star, and on her show talks about her attempts to focus on her blog.  Morgan is aware that she struggles to post regulary, and even posts about her struggles, which is why I would classify it as a recreational blog.  Her Twitter and Instagram feeds are next to her blog posts, and new Tweets and Grams are posted constantly!  If you’d like to Tweet her directly, you can do so from her blog.

Morgan’s blog is just like her personality on the show – straightforward.  She says what she’s thinking or feeling and posts pictures to illustrate her life.  While it is very entertaining, and helps #RKOBH viewers peak behind the curtain, the blog alone does not seem extremely successful yet.  Morgan does have a twitter account, which helps to drive traffic to her blog, but the posts are so infrequent.  Her website is not the focal point of her brand.

runDisney

To be honest, the runDisney blog confused me.  Disney is obviously a professional company, but this blog does not have daily posts.  The posts are written by different authors and coincide with upcoming races.  With that being said, I would categorize runDisney blog as a group blog.

The runDisney blog exists to provide extra information and motivation around upcoming runDisney races.  The blog has been around since 2012, but Disney has hosted endurance races since the first WDW marathon in 1992.  The blog is consistent with the brand, as it encourages readers to get out and try their best with nutrition, training, and medals.

By our classroom definition, this is probably the least successful blog of the three, yet the most revenue producing company.  Their blog is not what generates revenue, but their parent website is where runners spend big money to sign up to race.  runDisney has a twitter account, which can drive traffic to the site as posts are actually updated.  The blog itself is part of runDisney’s advertising.  runDisney is giving out advice before it asks for anything in return.

All three blogs can be accessed by mobile device.   Followers can sign up for email updates, so while I’m on the go, getting fresh air, I can still stay connected with people and activities that interest me.

Mom, I’m running the Dopey Challenge in January – don’t worry about me getting enough fresh air!
